Bzzt. Wrong. Everyone using iOS has already given their consent for tracking by accepting the License Agreement and not globally turning off Location Services. You can't claim you didn't know or give consent when it's on page 2 of the License Agreement of the fracking phone's OS:
I seem to recall Facebook trying to use the same defense with all of its privacy issues and it didn't work so well.
Personally, I think this whole thing is a tempest in a teapot, but falling back on the license agreement is pretty weak.

the past 3 OSes can't be copied, and so far there's nothing to suggest we can just make backup copies of Lion.
Nothing suggests we can't either.
Of the past 3 OSes you cite, only one of them has been released since Apple got serious about digital distribution with the iPhone App store. We're :gasp: entering unprecedented territory here folks. Just because something could or couldn't be done before doesn't mean it can or can't be done in Lion.

I'm not sure I want to take *any* of your suggestions, seeing how your sole goal is to lead us to hell.
As for the separate groups moving through rooms, I don't see how the larger group can enter one room, then proceed into another room without setting off a trap before tail-end charlie follows along to explore the room. Are you assuming that constant "moving" turns keeps one from falling into a trap?

Who cares for Quicken - it's not performance critical. It probably wasn't worth the effort given the gains probaby wouldn't even be noticeable.
The market for small businesses running their office/financials is small indeed but isn't an executive of Intuit on the Apple BOD? They should have been ahead of the game. It is suprising that the 2007 product line is not Universal. Oh, I would argue that it is performance critical. Try crunching numbers all day...
I did not hear of any market research by Intuit on the subject but I'm sure they are aware that their users are using BootCamp or Parallels and using the Windows versions (which are much more developed). Check their forums, users every day are posting they are "switching" away. This comes back to the "doomsday" reports of old when Apple announced the move to Intel. Will developers give up developing for Macs when Mac users themselves are booting up Windows on their machines? Time will tell.

The size of screen is irrelevant. It's resolution that matters here.

I want a device that I can check email on the go, sign documents, sketch a quick idea, circle an interesting part of an article for someone to look over, browse the web with ease, control my other computers/servers, take a picture and write some notes on it so that someone can get a better idea of what I'm thinking and countless other possibilities I haven't thought of.
I feel like this is the sort of market Apple would go for if they do consider going into some kind of 'tablet' machine. It doesn't have to move mountains, but be simplistic in form and function. I love the portability of my laptop, but would consider buying something like this if it let me do basic web surfing, play my iTunes music/videos, check email, and write with a slide-out style keyboard. But the challenge will be if they can get it at a $499 price point; that's my limit, at any rate. :(

Do you really want Apple to have no competition? Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if this starts affecting a lot of Apple's competitors, for a prolonged period of time - various countries would start to look at Apple regarding its competition laws.
Apple didn't buy up the production to throttle the competition. They had the balls to bet on the iPad being a run-away winner. Think about it. Months into marketing a brand new product category, Apple acted to secure future capacity at levels no one else anticipated. Had Apple been wrong, it would have hurt them terribly. As it is now, Apple is barely meeting sales demand levels.
Apple's competitors want a piece of the market but don't have the confidence in their product to put their money down in advance. RIM had their chance to buy production ahead, they didn't.

Please bring a huge UI overhaul. Lets see something new.
New UI & Grand features is what is to be expected with this update.
We already know that the aqua look is gone. The ios scrollbar shown on Lion is an example of the aqua leaving for good.
I can see lots of the applications such as Safari, Contacts, Calender, mail, ect is going to get a new look.
Very exciting to know that it's coming out this summer!

Because it's rapidly becoming the case that EVERYTHING can be produced more cheaply in places like China and India -- even things that were previously thought to be "safe" industries (medical X-Rays are read in India / China, legal documents are authored overseas and sent back to the US to be signed) because they required and educated or advanced workforce.
So, I turn the question back to you -- how will you afford to buy an iPod when you are asked to take a substantial (50% or more) pay cut because an individual in India or China can do YOUR job more cheaply.
Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.
And then the price of labor in those producing countries will rise. Then return to other countries. it cycled back and forth.

Did I suggest that? I think not. The problem we run into is that everybody starts screaming when you bring sharp objects anywhere near their precious fetish. We simply cannot employ reason and discussion until we can all agree that nobody will be pleased when we finish (even the bean counters will grumble).

I work at a university that is undergoing cuts. But some departments actually make the university money. Does it make sense to cut departments that generate income as much as departments that don't? At least the people in charge here understand the difference and aren't applying "across the board cuts".

Thanks for raising the noise question. My thoughts exactly. Since there wasn't a case redesign, I suspect the noise specs to be similar to G5.

I'd say less. The fans in the G5's had to work like dogs because the chips were actually overclocked and were pumping out a lot of heat. The woodcrests should run quite a bit cooler, and the noise level should be less. Notice from the internal views that there are fewer fans than appear on the G5?

Apple is a business whose mission is to sell phones, computers, and software. You as a customer buy those products, but they are designed by Apple. If you have a problem with Apple establishing a standard across its products to ensure quality, then you can just stop using them. That easy, just stop buying Apple products and stop using them, period.
If Apple weren't so controlling Toyota wouldn't need to have this app in the jailbreaking community.
Sure, some of apple's rules are good - i.e., no private API calls, but others, utter garbage - its SJ's ego shinning through.

AppleInsider makes a good point. The report is that the iPhone 5 will be released in the first half of fiscal year 2012 which starts in late September 2011. This will do 2 things: allow iPhone 5 to ship with iOS 5, and allow Apple to cash in on the Holiday season starting this coming September/October. This is just my own prediction.
I'm in the 3GS camp too, so I won't lie and say I'm happy about this.

Noticed that if you take down the HD to 160 GB you safe enough money to buy another 250 GB HD? Now 160 + 250 makes 410 GB... essentially for the work of building it into the computer, which, as Apple tells us, should be pretty easy. Hmm...
I wish they would sell a baseline version with some sort of a single Core 2 Duo CPU and onboard graphics... anything to reduce price but keep it possible to upgrade.

You can't even begin to compare this service to MobileMe's current offerings. This is just space. (And a music player.) MobileMe offers address book, calendar, photo browsing, and other features.
Those services are readily available for free elsewhere. I used to subscribe to MobileMe back when it was the only reliable way to get push email, calendar, and contacts on my iPhone. Since then Google services have been allowed to be compatible and work about as well. I let my MobileMe subscription lapse. Towards the end, the only thing I was using my MobileMe for was the iDisk.
Huh? :confused: I think redundancy is the only valid argument here. What do you mean by bandwidth? Transfer speeds uploading to the cloud are hideous compared to USB 2.0. Syncing tools are also readily available for any external drive. External drives barely use any power, 20W during access. Processing power? You're not compressing or analyzing data. Just transferring and storing it. :confused:

My dropbox folder syncs across 3 computers and is easily accessible by my iPhone, plus I have shared folders with other users that sync across all my computers plus all the computers of my friends. I always imagined that when Apple sends over all the blueprints, for the technologies/products that Apple asks Samsung to build, those Blueprints go right to Samsung R&D. To copy and learn from.
