iPad 3 this fall? I thought it was next month? iPad 4 this fall and iPad 5 for Xmas would make more sense to me...
If Apple starts playing that game they will loose credibility, customers would be kind of lost. One breakthrough per year is good...no more and for sure no less.

I would really like to see Apple have a laptop cheaper than $1,100, and I think there would be a definite market for the, especially for teenagers looking into getting a Mac. I know that's unlikely, but...
I don't know, I'm kinda expecting it. As seen in the past, I'm sure they'll drop to ~$1000. Maybe even cheaper once they get some of their R&D back and chip prices start to fall. Eventually I see a sub $800 laptop even. Maybe.

I'm surprised at how much misunderstanding there is as I skim this discussion.
Why is Apple stopping this? Because it provides publicity to jailbreaking. They may have other reasons for it, but I'll wager more than any other, drawing attention to jailbreaking is the main reason why this bothers them.
Why is Apple bothered by jailbreaking? Why does Apple oppose jailbreaking? Again, as a company which tightly controls the user experience of their devices and doesn't like news such as security flaws, I'm sure there are many things which bother them about jailbreaking, but again there is probably one primary cause: software piracy. Jailbreaking enables software piracy and there's not a whole lot that even the jailbreaking community can do about that.
And then there's a few more nails in the coffin: a jailbreak must take advantage of a security flaw in Apple devices or software in order to be performed, and Apple must patch these flaws in order to maintain their device security. Even if Apple didn't care about jailbreaking so much they should continue patching the flaws, thus the cat and mouse game. So why doesn't Apple just allow it by default? See the earlier points, especially piracy. Apple is going to oppose jailbreaking to the end and they have legitimate reasons to do so. I like to jailbreak my devices from time to time, but I see where they're coming from.

Everyone with an iphone is paying at least $840 a year for the privilege of using it, and if all you wanted was cell phone service you could pay half that.
Lets review a few things:
1) Standalone GPS units cost less than $99 today with interfaces similar to the TomTom software and they won't tie up your iPhone while navigating.
2) The hardware itself is far more expensive than it should be given the price point of standalone TomTom GPS hardware. I bought a TomTom GO 730 for about $139 brand new.
3) The Google Maps turn by turn navigation really brings competition that shows just how overpriced these GPS solutions are.
Yes, I pay at least $840 per year for my iPhone that gives me enough functionality to almost call it a computer. The Google Maps navigation software will be included with it soon making it an even better value, but for now the TomTom solution is still overpriced compared to TomTom's own hardware offerings.

I think Apple needs to concentrate more on improving iOS rather than adding a faster processor. Tbh I'm pretty fed up of my iPhone 4 as the is just looks boringly simple. Not everybody wants the same old os on every device. I think it's the omnia 7 next for me so I can have a change.

I moved from my good ol' 3Gs to a ZTE-Blade a few months ago and have to say that despite the general black/grey colors that android apps seem to be forced to use with the UI, the 'desktop' of the phone is much more elegant and usable than the iPhone's. I'd really like to see Apple open up the API's a little more and maybe even allow us to completely swap out their homescreen for custom app based ones. It works well on the droids.
We all have our opinions, likes and dislikes. Personally, the things that you three cite are reasons why I have tried four different Android devices, and returned/sold every one of them. I, for one hope that Apple continues to march to the beat of their own drummer, and continues to go after the simpler aesthetic. Every Android device I have owned has seemed like a cheap, kludgy "Window-ized" version of the iPhone. More married to specs than to user experience. Don't get me wrong. I can geek it up with the best of 'em. But my first Mac several years ago was nothing short of a watershed moment in my computing life. It made me realize how tired I was getting of having to spend hours and hours customizing my interface just to make it usable, and tweaking my hardware to keep it running optimally (or some semblance thereof).
When I see links such as the one earlier in this forum, showing the hacks one must put in place just to make the battery on a Thunderbolt last more than half a day I shudder to think of all of the years I spent with (virtual) grease under my fingernails, and how nice it is now to just have devices that help me get through the day without having to constantly tinker under the hood.
Not to mention that the "openness" of Android allowing hardware manufacturers and carriers to conspire against subscribers has let the proverbial fox back in the henhouse.
Sure, I'd like to see IOS continue to evolve and wow us with a few revolutionary changes. But, IMO following the Android model is not the way to go. To each his own, I suppose.

I may get one as my first iPhone in September, I would hate to buy the iPhone 4 when this is coming in Sept. but my contract expired last year so I am just going to waiti it out.

But, I mean, just look at the *size* of that thing! Apple could conceivably produce a product like that with an ULV processor, and with similar (or even better) specs, right?

Yeah something just doesnt feel right. OS X recognises a 2.93GHz chip as 4GHz? and since when does Apple put in CPU features in system profiler?
Ok, so I hate to admit it, but I can confirm from my experimental days that OSX 86 reports at least P4 CPUs innaccurately as mentioned above. The system profiler in OSX86 does attempt to describe the chip. My HT P4 2.4 GHz was reported as a 3.something. Don't know if it was the hyperthreading or the HT coupled with the OSX86 hacked version itself was the problem in the reporting.
I can say that I never got anywhere in terms of stability with the experiment. Video card was the biggest problem. Hey, I was curious.
I still have an eMac (wife's) and just like Multimedia mentioned above, I sold my PowerMac dual 2.0 last week for top $$ before the new ones are released. Have you ever met anyone who made a profit on a computer 9 months later? Bought the dual processor from the apple store *right* after the dual cores were announced. They took $500 off. I can't believe what people are paying on eBay knowing that the change is days away. But, they still got a great machine below current market value.
Since I don't make a living on my Mac and I have my wife's for email/internet I can go without one for a few weeks (but it's hard!). I am anxiously awaiting the announcements with Conroe/Merom. I bought my P-Mac only because of the original deal I got. With the $$ from it's sale, I don't know if I'll be getting a P-Mac or an iMac.

Meanwhile, new iPods are not expected due at WWDC - but instead are felt to be released in late September-October.
Apple will, of course, be featuring Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) at WWDC this year as previously reported. There has been little leaked information about the upcoming version of Mac OS X.
As always, MacRumors will provide live coverage of the WWDC Keynote which will take place Monday August 7th (http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/schedules/monday_am.html).

It makes sense given that the iPhone 4 in White is just about to hit the market.
It would be stupid for Apple to finally START selling the White iPhone 4 only to 2-3 months later release the iPhone 5. Why go through all the hassles of developing the White iPhone only to effectively end its appeal 2 months later???
If they were going to do that, they would have probably just scrapped the white iPhone 4 and told everyone to stay tuned because something better was coming in its place.
I know I would be royally pissed if I had bought a product at release date only to have something even better come out just 2-3 months later. I know technology moves fast, but damn!
This way, if the iPhone 4 White Hits in April, that gives people at least 5-6 months of using it before a new one is announced or released.
This may also be an indication that iPhone 5 will just hit when iOS 5 is ready and that it will be uniquely positioned to take full advantage of it.
It also means I got until September to stash enough cash to buy the iPhone 5 unlocked and contract-free at release. :D

I wonder how many of these they'll sale? If it's not due out until September, but everything still points to a summer release of the iPhone 6, which is supposed to be a redesign, then why not wait six more months? I'm due for a new phone this June and if the iPhone is delayed til September I will certainly wait six more months and get the redesigned one. I'm not crazy about this form factor anyway.

A slightly improved version of the iPad 2 could also be released around that time, to be sold alongside the current version. September's Apple event could be a lot more than just new iPods. iPad 2 only just launched yesterday in various other countries. It will most likely sell out there this weekend as well. Most people still have a few weeks to wait for ordered iPad 2's. They can barely meet demand now. App developers have barely even scratched the surface of updating and writing apps to take advantage of all the new goodies in the iPad 2. With the tragedy in Japan, some components are in short supply. iPad 2 has barely gotten out of the gate! With a track record like that for the iPad 2, I just can't see how anyone can believe any type of iPad 3 launch will take place in the Fall. Besides, that's when they launch iPods for Xmas anyway. They already have a product schedule for that window. "2011 is the Year of iPad 2".

They sort out the screen resolution/display in a way so that iPhone apps will be automatically blown up to fit the screen so developers won't have to create iPad Mini-specific apps. No retina display. Will be kept at a modest price point - between the regular iPad and Touch prices. Released just in time for the holiday shopping season: An iPad that's cheaper than a regular iPad and can fit in a purse. A great present for the wife. It'll be THE stocking stuffer of the year. This iPad mini could be what the "new iPad in September" rumors are really about. Just don't call it an iPad 3 or Mr. jobs will get mad. It's the "Big Touch," yo.

Agreed. Google's darling Android doesn't just track cell towers. They've found it recording wi-fi networks near the user as well and transmitting that data... like every couple of minutes. (No wonder the batteries don't last on droid for more than 3-5 hours). I wish I could find the link to the article I read that in. It's certain models that have been found to do it.... right down to your GPS coordinates. Why does Google need to know this? And their users are now inadvertently spying on other people. Google has no rights to info on my wi-fi network just because someone drove past my house with an Android phone in the car.
Yet I use Google every day, but I at least know they're watching me.

Many apps use the info to provide their services (e.g., WeatherBug). About a year ago I was being located in other states over 600 miles away from my location. That has been remedied - finally - as the app has been improved.
Often I have been told that the GPS info was unavailable for my phone as I was attempting to use the maps.
My myTouch 3G is charged each night. The only times I have put it on the charger was when I was transferring data between my SD card and my computer (images and tunes, e.g.).
Yet I use Google every day, but I at least know they're watching me.

Many apps use the info to provide their services (e.g., WeatherBug). About a year ago I was being located in other states over 600 miles away from my location. That has been remedied - finally - as the app has been improved.
Often I have been told that the GPS info was unavailable for my phone as I was attempting to use the maps.
