My 867 mhz G4 PB takes 15 hours to crunch a unit....I thought that was decent, but if your 450mhz G4's are crunching a unit at 12-14 hrs that would make my PB really slow. huh. And yes, I have it at maximum processor.
Those 2 G4/450's run SETI in blank screen mode and do nothing else that is why they can complete units faster.

Is there no way to get the iMac to remain region free?
What if you use VLC instead of the DVD Player?
This is by far the easiest way--VLC should play the disc no matter the region coding.

That is one power-hungry clock!
Anyway, as others have said, use the Cmd-Opt-X-O to boot the ROM disk if you prefer (or you can set up a system to boot from floppy that loads a RAM drive, then run from the RAM drive,) to minimize even the floppy use.
If all that is going on is minimal clock processing and the CRT, you can probably get away with no fan. Maybe find a newer/quieter fan to put in instead if you're really worried.

Wow just noticed I had a screen image burn-in on my iPad 2
Didn't know LCDs were susceptible to burn-in? I noticed it while on the eBay App while it was displaying a grey background, I saw the outline of the keyboard. Took a snap shot of the screen to make sure it wasn't a strange anomoly or something and while on that grey screen, I still notice the burned-in keyboard layout. It stays in the same spot when switching from landscape to portrait.
Anyone else have this problem?

that's the Smooth tool not the Brush tool. If that's what you really get when you click the Brush tool try resetting Illustrator's Preferences:
Move or rename the Adobe Illustrator Preferences file: Users/[user]/Library/
Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS[X] Settings
Then restart Illustrator.

^ When you do this, it usually asks what OS you want to boot from. Will there be an option to boot from the XP disc or how would it work?
Yes, you will see the OS X partition, the Win 7 partition and the CD. Pick the CD.
You will also have to use Alt to select the Windows XP partition when it wants to reboot during the install.

Okay, I have a pair of Klefs that I want to hook up to an iBook. Now, they don't use RCA-connectors; just normal speaker wire. I remember seeing an adaptor for about $50 a while backt which you plug the standard speaker wire into and at the other side it provides a mini interconnect which plugs into the iBook. Anyone know of this? A link would be much appreciated!

Simple problem, but it is bothering me. On my Droid I was able just to highlight a new number or click on a text and it would enable me to create a contact if one had not already been created. Now I have to manually type in a contact on my Iphone. Is there any way to do this? Am I missing something?
if you click and hold on a number you are given the option to add to an existing contact or create a new one from it.

(Note: Don't take the hood off a monitor and start poking around inside unless you are conversant with high voltage safety precautions or have a paid up life insurance policy. Those puppies have enough juice to stun a horse in them even when unplugged.)
Very good, sound advice. That being said I have salvaged many a discarded monitor doing little more than a degauss and adjusting the flyback transformer(the dangerous part.) I have heard that there is enough "zap" inside to send a man clear across the room.

Yes, it always has been, and always will be held in San Francisco at the Moscone Center.
As far as I know there is no age limit.

I sold a Mac 128k with an image writer, no software or anything with it, for about $400 two years ago if that gives you a range.

I just bought an iPod 2G of eBay for 30 bucks. According to the description it probably just needs a new battery so I bought one and a firewire cable. I assume all iPod generations should work with the current iTunes as my 3G does with no issues. I'm sure if they stopped iTunes support for any older models we would definitely hear about it.

Thank you so much!
is that some kind of adware thing or is it something my client accidently put in there?

I've been eye-ing the 27" i5 with 1GB VRAM (July '10 model) for a few months. I noticed that it has already dropped from $1699 to $1449. I did a quick check with Google's cached version of the Apple Refurb store and confirmed that the price has recently dropped. So, I think the prices have already dropped for the refresh.
Cool, UK store is def still at old prices, hopefully it will follow suit shortly. thanks

Use Handbrake. Its free and it has iPad specific profiles. You also get good control of the file size, with the understanding that smaller file size typically means lesser picture quality.

yeah it looks like there was a transparent background and that at some point it got converted from a gif/png to a jpg and so, in the process of being rastorized, it looks pixelated. i'd go back to the original image with transparent background and re-export for web.

Thought people might be interested in the performance of this tech. I just finished my brand new SB i7-2600k build. Here's the complete specs:
Lian Li PC-A05NB case
Intel i7-2600k @ 4.5GHz - Cooler Master Hyper 212+ CPU cooler (temps 30C idle, ~60 load)
AMD HD 6970
MSI P67A-GD55(B3) motherboard
G.Skill 8GB DDR3 1600
Corsair AX850 PSU
500GB WD Caviar Black SATAIII
2x 250GB WD Caviar Black SATAII RAID 0
Samsung Blu Ray Combo Drive
(Don't think I'm too crazy, some of these parts were scavenged from my [rather] old computer)
Now the good stuff, folding performance:
Used the PPD calc here: http://linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php
-SMP2
@ 4.4ghz
p6060
TPF: ~2 min 5 sec
PPD: 31026
@ 4.5ghz
p6900 (core a5)
TPF: ~26 min 0 sec
PPD: 46454
-GPU3 (HD 6970, stock speeds)
p5733 (core_11)
TPF: ~2 min 10 sec
PPD: Too loud...
Other benchmarks for fun:

I made a category "Interconnects" also.
Thats redundant for ports, but probably okay for such things as Infiniband, etc...
BTW, what happened to the formatting on the Category:Ports (http://guides.macrumors.com/Category:Ports) page? Why is it separating the S's like that, and making it a weird grid instead of a simple list of articles??
Also, why when forwarding the Ports (http://guides.macrumors.com/Ports) page to the Category:Ports does it not show the entire category?

Apple is anti-jailbreak, as you've learned the hard way; when you jailbreak your iDevice, you don't ever want to update it through iTunes.
If you can restore or start new from within iTunes, then I'd recommend giving Apple a call.

:o WOW a whole SECOND? Unacceptable..
Lol try to clear your history/cache/cookies. Close all running apps, and restart your phone. If that doesn't help, restore as new and I'm 99% sure it'll be fixed
