+1. My IP is being logged right now most likely. No matter where you go, using any communication device, you can be tracked. If you're that paranoid, get off the grid. Every phone company tracks your location. This for iPhone users is just a log of it on your phone.
I do agree, however, that the consolidated.db file should at least be encrypted if it is to remain on the device. Now any good crook knows all they need is your iphone to find out when best to rob you.
Exactly. I don't know why everybody is all fired up about this. If you aren't a criminal, you have nothing to worry about. If you are, then you are probably bright enough to use a burn phone. :p

Well guys, I just called my local Apple store and they have the kit in stock. That, and given the 1 -2 months delivery on apple.com and no news at all from BLT, means that for me at least, it's time to bite the bullet.
I plan to go to the Apple store and buy the kit.
I reveiwed the Magellan kit on Amazon with a preorder and scheduled delivery of 1/5/2010 and think the Tom tom is a better looking accessory that has gotten good reviews from those that were able to get their hands on one.
I was hoping we'd spend the holidays together lamenting the non delivery from BLT--LOL.
I'll give you an update--like man goes balistic in apple store when tom tom car kit is out of stock.
Good luck to you all.

I believe that the only reason why Apple has not made a full transition to Core 2 is the lack of sufficient supply from Intel. As soon as they have the inventory they will stop ordering Core and move fully to Core 2.
In terms of MB and MBP, the performance difference will be related to graphics - integrated -v- a graphics board. The MBP will also have the larger display size, lighted keyboard, etc. to place them "above" the MB.
The issue for Apple is not the difference between the MB & MBP, but the competitive position of the two in the general notebook market. Moving fully to Core 2 keeps both notebooks at the top of their market segments in terms of processors - not a bad idea since the costs of the new Core 2s is very similar to the costs they paid for Cores.

But I just got the email notice that mine/ours is just about to renew, too. To have it become free for new users in a week, or a month, even, would be somewhat of a bite . . .
I'm sure it won't be full MobileMe if its ever going to happen. I'm betting my money on Apple lowering the price but in that case the old subscribers get extra space.

No, he's saying Apple does not track your location. There has been no evidence that any of the location information leaves your phone/computer. Whether that file should exist or not is another debate.
+1 the people crying about this are just plain ignorant and have NO idea how much stuff records their location. If they are so worried they need to get rid of their car GPS too. Its tracking info is MUCH more accurate and it stores it in the device. Oh and if your camera has geotagging don't forget that too!
Plus what people don't understand is that this information has to be obtained from having the device and knowing how to get the file and read it. If your phone never gets stolen you have nothing to worry about. If your phone gets stolen guess what, you also have nothing to worry about. Theives are going to wipe it anyway so they don't get caught.

Please Apple, don't do this. You are just finishing the transition from PowerPC to Intel by removing Rosetta from Lion and you're already planning on switching architectures again. Are they TRYING to fragment their Macs?

You know what I think the Galaxy Line's UI does look a lot like iOS, but at the same time people follow good design standards.
Being a Web Designer, this type of things happens on websites all the time, you will find most websites that have very similar placement of things & even similar design, for example in the vast majority of websites you will find the navigation on top & sides, simply because we read top to bottom & left to right, have a look at - ign.com, gamespot.com or even apple.com & cnet.com..
You will see how they have many similarities, now this doesn't necessarily mean that they copied each other.. They are just following good design principles..
So to conclude Samsung is following good UI design.. Apple did an amazing job with it's UI on iOS.. So not surprised others are following it..
Anyway I don't think its a reason to sue, honestly Apple is doing really well in the tablet market, I don't know what they are worried about :P.. What Apple should focus on is enhancing its UI leaving others behind..
Forget suing :P
The difference here though is that nobody patented a website design where you have a navigation bar at the top and the sides etc, but Apple has patented its UI for iOS.

I, for one, am glad there wasn't an update to the MacBook Pro.
As for the Mac Pro, I am really impressed with everything except the video card. I haven't got the means to get one anytime soon since I just bought my MBP, but it's a great machine. The internals are really great looking.

I barely meet the minimum qualifications, so in deference go other more skilled players, make me the eighth person if sign-ups (and interest) appear to stall.
Game sounds intriguing, very D&D-like.
Nah, you played 3 games, so you're eligible. No question. You're in.
Don't panic's Questions:
- secret powers: other than not knowing who is what, do we know what the secret powers are and how they work?
No, only the person who has the power know.
- monsters/trap: do we know how many there are at the beginning? what is the range of their powers? why does the villain has two turns, isn't it the same as if he just gets 4 points in that double-turn? or does he get to move his minion. attack, heal, place new monsters/traps move monsters twice every round?
Treasure: no. Villain: He has two turns/two points. What I was basically saying is that the villain most likely will think of his turns as points. Nothing more. Two turns = two points.
For example: let's say a dragon costs 10 turns (or points). To be able to place the dragon on the map, the villain must forgo 10 turns. The fastest way to get the dragon is to skip both his turns for 5 rounds.
- moving: move to door means open the door and get into the next passage/room? can monsters move and open doors once they are placed?
Yes, No
- are attacks automatic? when do they occur in the turn?
Automatic - the heroes go into a room where the villain places the monster, the battle begins immediately.
- can the villain/monster fall into the traps?
Villain (a stupid one): yes, Monsters: No (since they don't move)
- how/how fast does the villain move?
Same way as the heroes. One turn per door.
- the villain stats are 16/16 plus 2/2 for each hero alive or 16/16 minus 2/2 for each hero dead?
The villain begins the game at level 16, with 16 HP and 16 AP. His stats does not change during the game.
- does the villain knows where the treasures are?
Yes, he has access to the same map the GMs does.

I would expect us to get 480p movies - who wants to stare at an iPod for 115 minutes? And if Apple didn't offer them at DVD quality (with HD in the future), then they'd look mighty stupid going up against Amazon.
Personally, I don't care. I've got Netflix - and I don't think Apple's going to beat (roughly) $2/rental.

So you want Apple to be forced by the government to reduce its manufacturing, tell its customers "sorry, no iPad for you" because the competition needs to catch up? How stupid is that?
If Apple was found to be abusing its position... yes. But this is NOT my point, my point was 'countries start to investigate Apple due to a shortage of components due to Apple buying up the available stock for a prolonged period of time'. This is very different from Apple being found guilty etc etc.

Android is funded by target advertising? I didnt know that, can you provide a link that backs this up?
Android costs money to develop. Android from what has been put out there is free for companies to use with no licensing fee. So how is Google able to generate money to pay people to code and maintain the software?
1. Google is generating money through it's normal search business which is well documented to know where you are at (physically and on the web) and where you have been (on the web).
2. Google is generating money through advertising generated via the Android platform. If this is the case, it would seem very like they would employ the same tactics used in standard desktop web advertising in the mobile spectrum. So logic and past actions would dictate but if that isn't enough then how about the patent Google was awarded for advertising on the mobile platform based on location? http://www.gomonews.com/google-and-the-art-of-self-defense-location-based-mobile-advertising-patent-is-probably-anti-apple-weaponry/

And I wouldn't be opposed to having a blu-ray drive in my MBP, though I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon what with the blue laser shortages at Sony.

I could see iAd playing a role in this decision. Apple
pays for it through ads. Makes sense.
It makes absolutely no sense.
Steve Jobs said iAd was a way to have Free or low cost apps on the app store and still get the developer a little compensation.
How does that translate into a closed cloud service like Mobileme? Apple isn't trying to be Cupertino Google here.

If they do then the iPhone 4 will be my last iPhone. The iPhone 4 is big enough. Any larger and it won't fit as nicely in pockets.
I'm sure he just means the screen and it has been proven that a 4" screen will not increase the physical size of the phone.
Even if it went to 4.5" or 5" and made the phone slightly bigger, you probably wouldn't even notice (but this is more than extremely unlikely to happen)

But what's this about an iPad 3? I find that very hard to believe, since Apple clearly said that 2011 will be the Year of the iPad 2.
