I am fine with this, for the same reasons that I am happy that the Macintosh isn't the biggest platform on the desktop environment.

If they made it a little taller it should be easy-peasy for Apple to fit the necessary cooling. Hey, if they're making it taller, they could add a 3.5" Hard Drive which is much cheaper than laptop hard drives and we could finally get a 500GB Mini.

But then it wouldn't be a Mac Mini, now would it?

I bet the people crying "foul" the loudest are also the ones who have FourSquare installed and update it every 5 seconds.

Jobs is right - big difference with your phone remembering locations, as opposed to Apple actively gathering it.

It would save money with the need for less raw materials.

It would save very little money in material costs for the overall market. They don't have 2 options for a Workstation.

This would be their section option.

    Nanobots in the bloodstream!

I suppose we'll have to sync via IV drip? :D However, it would be rather neat to have the nanobots vibrate the eardrums and cilia directly. That would get rid of those annoying headphone cables once and for all.

    But we digress...

Ridiculous. Nothing is at all similar, aside from the bezel.

Perhaps you need to actually look at an iPhone 3GS and a Galaxy Tab sometime.

I can see apple maybe putting an ARM chip in the macbook so it can run in low power tablet mode, but to complete replace the CPU really makes no sense. However lots that the do seldom makes sense, so who knows. The reason I won't be buying a mac again is simply because they are severly underpowered, gaming really sucks on them compared to what you can get on a PC.

Apple needs to replace the optical drive with another AMD GPU, and Crossfire them sexy beasts up. Gone will be the days of Macs that can't run every game in existence at max settings.

I'm surprised by the amount of resistance I'm seeing to this idea. I've assumed for a while that this move was inevitable. ARM procs will be fast, relatively cheap, cool, and energy efficient. Apple already has an OS for it which will see considerable convergence with the Mac OS in the near future. This will be a great move for Apple and for consumers, as was the move to Intel.

I agree. Like i stated earlier, the transition from PowerPC to Intel was... Uncomfortable, but it was not painful in any way. There was a slight performance hit from running things via rosetta, but remember, rosetta is not wine. Wine's performance issues stem from the fact that it's having to implement an entire OS. All rosetta does is translate PowerPC instructions to Intel instructions and not much else. If Apple made the transition, the majority of users wouldn't even notice, because all their intel apps would continue to run for many years to come. The transition would be almost entirely transparent to the average user, just as the PowerPC/Intel transition was.

Also, knowing Microsoft, if they ever made the switch to ARM, they would provide TWO versions of windows, one that works with ARM, and one that works with intel, creating the severe fragmentation that exists with 32-bit windows vs 64-bit windows, but for Intel/ARM. It's the main reason MacOS is so far ahead in terms of 64-bit deployment. No 64-bit macs are running 32-bit only OSes, and the devs know it. Not so with the windows world. I think the transition would be extremely painful for Microsoft if they don't at least try to implement universal binaries.

Just got home from work and went on line as fast as my slow PC would boot.

Lots of power, loads of expansion and 2 optical drive slots! (:p )

But still way way too expensive.

Still going to build a Core Duo 2 2.13Ghz PC, and still wishing Apple would create a computer that i want to buy.

As I said in other email, I stopped using it only because I lost my free "employees" license when I left the company that I had bought it for and couldn't justify the 100 + to buy a home license. I'm afraid I found everything else I tried (Norton, McAfee etc) to be very poor alternatives. Eventually settling on ESET NOD32, which while still taking more resources than Sophos, and only having daily updates rather than the minute by minute updates from Sophos, it was still the best of the ones I tried.

I'm still running Sophos AV using an employees license at this moment. Although it never detected any Mac malware, it does find Windows malware from time to time. And it's nice to have this malware removed before I send files to friends, collegues or customers.

It runs smooth on the background and does a decent job. It might not be to crucial on a Mac, but still it's a nice idea my files are protected.

Weve never had a game like this before, so you shouldnt let this put you off.

if we explore is that our move and then the villain makes his? Or if we pick a door would this be a way to avoid the villains traps, since he may have put one in the room were in?

I would think that the traps have already been laid. So you may have a point in choosing another room.

Only for a year. Fill up that 20 Gigs and a year later you can either empty it down to the free 5, or pony up.

Not if you buy your music from Amazon and have it saved to your cloud storage be default. All mp3 purchases from Amazon (so long as cloud storage is set as your default when purchasing) are stored free in the cloud and don't count against your storage limit. You can download it to your Mac/PC later (while leaving it in the Amazon cloud) and add it into your iTunes library on your local storage if you'd like.

This is actually a much better thing for me, as if I'm away from my home computer, I can still buy music, have it go to the cloud by default, and immediately have it available to both any computer that runs the cloud player and my phone without having to wait to go home and purchase through iTunes and sync a device.

    +1 for Apple

Anyone saying they are a monopoly or anti-competitive should actually learn what those terms actually mean before throwing them around.

    Piggie, you're my favourite!

You were quite concerned about how far behind Tegra 2 the iPad 2's specs were going to be and then when the tables turn in Apple's favour for specs it's, "but why, who needs this?"

Are you trying to say that having a higher resolution wouldn't be beneficial? Especially in light of your comment about the iPad's resolution.

My god thats an expensive computer. It seems like they went all out to try and make the most expensive computer possible. You HAVE to buy a quad Xeon desktop? Why? Some people need a tower for its PCI slots but dont want or need a quad Xeon setup. Cant they release a model that uses a regular processor like a Pentium 4 or whatever and price it for like $1000 cheaper? I guess Apple will continue to leave us middle-end users out in the cold. Mac Minis suck, iMacs dont meet the needs of a lot of people thanks to no PCI slots, Mac Pros only come with a quad Xeon(!?) and well set you back more than a used Honda Accord. Apple went WAY overboard with this thing without offering anything to fill in the gap between iMac and Mac Pro. Freakin hell.
